Vigilante (Hangul: 비질란테) is a 2023 South Korean television series starring Nam Joo-hyuk, Yoo Ji-tae, Lee Joon-hyuk, and Kim So-jin. Based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Kim Gyu-sam, it follows a model student from the police academy who protects the law during the day, but at night lives as a 'vigilante' and dispenses justice to criminals who evade the law.
It was premiered at the On Screen section of the 28th Busan International Film Festival on October 5, 2023, where 3 of 8 episodes were screened.[2] It will be subsequently released on November 8, 2023 on Disney+.[3][4]
Cast
- Nam Joo-hyuk as Kim Ji-yong, a perfect model police academy student by day, and Vigilante, a dark hero who directly judges criminals by night.[5]
- Yoo Ji-tae as Jo Heon, the investigation team leader
- Lee Joon-hyuk as Cho Kang-ok, the helper of 'Vigilante'
- Kim So-jin as Choi Mi-ryeo, a broadcast reporter
Production
Studio N announced its plan to remake the webtoon Vigilante by Kim Gyu-sam into film in September 2019.[1] Nam Joo-hyuk was cast to play lead role in the series in April 2022.[6] Yoo Ji-tae gained 20kg of weight to realistically portray Jo Heon, the head of the metropolitan investigation team chasing.[7]
Release
Vigilante after its premier at the 28th Busan International Film Festival on October 5, will be released on November 8, in a total of 8 episodes, with two episodes available per week on every Wednesday.[4]
