Amy Isabel Hulmes née Matthews (5 October 1887 – 27 October 2001)[1] from Bury, Greater Manchester, England was a British supercentenarian and the oldest person in Britain until her death, at the age of 114 years and 22 days. She was also thought to be the oldest person in the world, before the discovery of Maude Farris-Luse who was nine months older. Hulmes was the youngest of nine children, and gave up smoking at the age of 84. She could reportedly still touch her toes at the age of 105.[2]
