Daniel Bell-Drummond (born 4 August 1993 in Lewisham, London) is an English first-class cricketer, who plays for Kent County Cricket Club as an opening batsman. He has represented England at youth level and has played for England Lions at senior level.

Bell-Drummond was spotted at Catford Wanderers CC by Kent as a seven-year-old and progressed through the county system, scoring his first century for the under-10 side aged just seven.[1] He played for England at under-15, under-17 and under-19 levels and represented Millfield School, before signing a three-contract with Kent County Cricket Club at the age of 17.[2][3] Prior to signing his professional contract Bell-Drummond received the John Aitken Gray Trophy having been named as Kent Academy Scholar of the year.[4][5]

England youth cricket

Bell-Drummond played for England under-19s in a series against Sri Lanka in 2010 and made his youth Test debut on 21 July 2010 in a 199 run defeat against Sri Lanka at the County Ground, Northampton. He made 32 and 1 opening the batting with Yorkshire youngster Joe Root.[6] In the following Test Bell-Drummond helped England level the series with an unbeaten 88 in a six wicket victory.[7]

In July 2011 Bell-Drummond played in a one-day series against South Africa under-19s. He top scored with 86 in the first match at Edgbaston with 11 boundaries including 1 six, however it was not enough to avoid defeat.[8] In the second game of the series he again top scored with another half century, recording a score of 68, which levelled the series at 1–1.[9] Bell-Drummond also hit half centuries in the fifth and seventh youth ODI's recording scores of 72 and 54 respectively.[10][11] He was the leading run scorer for England, scoring 329 runs in seven innings at an average of 47.00 as England lost the series 2–4.[12]

In April 2012 he played for England under-19s against the Australia, India and New Zealand under-19s in North Queensland. He began with a match-winning 103* against Australia, and topped the 50-over tournament's run-scorers with 287 (off 312 balls) at an average of 95.66.[13][14]

First-class cricket

Bell-Drummond made his first-class debut for Kent at the age of 17 in a University match against Loughborough MCCU and made a fluent 80 from 103 balls, an innings which included 11 fours and two sixes. He also shared a stand of 116 with team mate Sam Northeast.[15] On 31 July, he made his senior one-day debut in a victorious Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Worcestershire. He made an aggressive 42 from 30 balls including 7 boundaries and 2 sixes before falling to Saeed Ajmal.[16][17]

He made his maiden first class century in April 2013 against a Cardiff University side and used the innings to become a regular in the Kent side during the 2013 season.[18][19] After cementing his place in the Kent side in all forms of cricket and scoring a century against the touring Australian side in June 2015, Bell-Drummond was awarded his county cap in August 2015.[19][20][21]

In December 2015 Bell-Drummond made his first appearance for England Lions against the United Arab Emirates in a T20 match in Dubai. He scored 5 runs from 5 deliveries opening the batting. Later the same month he played in the final game of the five match T20 series against Pakistan A scoring 17 runs.[22]

Bell-Drummond made an excellent start to the the 2016 domestic season, hitting his maiden first-class double-hundred against Loughborough MCCU followed by a century in his first innings of the County Championship season against Leicestershire.[19][23] He and Tom Latham then combined for two first-wicket century partnerships in Kent's opening home match of the Championship against Glamorgan, only the third time this had been achieved in the same Championship match in the County's history.[24][25]
