Etheria: Ang Ikalimang Kaharian ng Encantadia (English: Etheria: The Fifth Kingdom of Encantadia), also known as Etheria, is a Filipino fantasy television series that was produced by GMA Network. It is the second installment of the entire Encantadia series. Etheria ran for 50 episodes from December 12, 2005 to February 17, 2006, and then gave way to the telefantasya franchise's next incarnation Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, which premiered on February 20, 2006.[1][2]

Being a prequel, the story takes place before the events in the world of Encantadia. Although it is technically a sequel to the series, the story plot revolves around the four elemental Sang'gres (Pirena (Sunshine Dizon), Amihan (Iza Calzado), Alena (Karylle) and Danaya (Diana Zubiri) and Ybrahim (Dingdong Dantes) going back to the past when the kingdom of Etheria was in its full glory.

Synopsis

Back when Encantadia was a young world, there was a kingdom called Etheria. The strong and powerful kingdom was ruled by Reyna Avria (Francine Prieto), who wanted to control the neighboring kingdoms of Lireo, Sapiro, Adamya and Hathoria.

However, the four kingdoms banded together and attempted to defeat the forces of Etheria.

Avria could not be defeated easily even as her kingdom succumbed, as the queen swore that Etheria would return to power once the last Sang'gre is born.

Meanwhile, Etheria's most powerful weapon, the Ginintuang Orasan (Golden Hourglass), was lost and was ultimately forgotten as time passed.

The prophecy was fulfilled. The last Sang'gre was born, and the Ginintuang Orasan was discovered. Etheria was about to rise again from the ashes and become the mighty kingdom it used to be.

To save the present, the four Sang'gres of Lireo must travel back to the past in ancient Encantadia, find the lost Sang'gre, and destroy the Ginintuang Orasan to stop Avria's centuries-old plan to dominate the world.

But things would not be easy, as the Ginintuang Orasan is guarded by four guardians who come from the four tribes of Etheria: Hera Volo, Hera Sensa, Hera Aega and Hera Andal.

Four kingdoms against four tribes. Four Sang'res against four Etherians. One Golden Hourglass that will determine the fate of two worlds.

Plot summary

The Kingdom of Etheria

Etheria is the oldest and most powerful kingdom in Encantadia, where the mythical sword Kabilan was found and made war with the four kingdoms of Adamya, Sapiro, Hathoria, and the newly founded Lireo. Animus, an Etherian noble from Hera Sensa, was responsible for the deaths of Memen and Ornia, the parents of Cassiopea, hence the three other kingdoms sympathized with her and declared war against Etheria. This united effort of the four kingdoms helped Cassiopea defeat Etheria.(Encantadia)

Origins

The world of Encantadia was created when the three major bathalas/bathalumans (deities), Emre, his brother Arde, and sister Ether, were cast out of the heavens (not to be mistaken for the "heaven" of Judeo-Christian canon) for remaining neutral during the first civil war. They arrived in a strange, uninhabited land and claimed it for themselves. The three deities decided to name the new world Encantadia.

Working together, the three deities transformed the barren land into a paradise, populating it with both offspring and creations like the many creatures that inhabit the Encantadian wilds.

Relations between the three masters of Encantadia were genial at first, until Ether and Arde broke the cardinal rule: never fall in love. Emre cursed them by turning Ether into a giant snake, and Arde was banished to limbo, transformed into a dragon-like beast tasked to forever safeguard the boundaries between the world of the living and Devas, the world of the dead.

Because of her horrific and feral form, most of the citizens of Encantadia grew to fear Ether and shunned her. In awe and fear of her new power, others came to worship the bathaluman, who in turn granted them power and protection. They became the first citizens of Etheria.

The kingdom was made up of four Heras (tribes), with the members of each house possessing a unique ability associated with their house. Hera Andal, the ruling house, possess dominion over life and death through their extensive knowledge of the healing arts and sorcery.

The Four Herans in Book Three

See: Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas When Etheria was destroyed, the goddess of the kingdom, Ether, flew around her kingdom which was all destroyed to find the Four Herans. She found them all and kept their spirits in a crystal ball and brought them to the future. The crystal ball broke, their spirits were free, and they hid in the ruined Hera Andal. They practiced fighting and were plotting something evil so they may try and steal the four jewels (because their powers were too weak compared to the Sang'gres powers) so Etheria may once again rise back in glory.
