Linda C. Lawson is a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing the 1st District since 1998.
State Representative Lawson was chosen by Indiana House Democrats as their Minority Leader in a caucus on July 26, 2012.[1] She became the first woman to head a Caucus in the Indiana House of Representatives. She will be the Minority Leader until House Democrats meet to choose new leadership following the November general election.
The caucus removed State Representative B. Patrick Bauer of South Bend as Minority Leader. The caucus was held in Lafayette, Indiana, according to reports, because it limited the travel distance for State Representative Lawson, who was recovering from recent back surgery.
Lawson is a 24-year veteran of the Hammond Police Department. She became the first female captain to serve the department after working as a patrol officer and a member of the sex crimes and domestic violence divisions.
