List of Diary of a Wimpy Kid characters

This is a list of the characters in Jeff Kinney's book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and in the film versions of the first, second, and third book. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of graphic novels written by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney. The books are the journals of the main character, whose name is Greg Heffley.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of films based on the books by Jeff Kinney, who was an executive producer. Like the books, the movies are the journals of Greg Heffley, the series' main character, who is played by Zachary Gordon.

Greg Heffley

Gregory "Greg" Heffley is the main protagonist of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In The Last Straw his father told him: "If you don't listen to me you're going to the military school." Greg does a lot of wrong stuff, such as terrorizing kids he was supposed to get home, trying to steal donated money at church in Dog Days, lying in confession, picking on kids such as Chirag Gupta and Peter Uteger in Rodrick Rules, negatively affecting his best friend on purpose in The Ugly Truth, saying that if he hides his good deeds God wouldn't see it in The Last Straw, playing Rodrick's pranks on Rowley, trying to freak Rowley out by covering his hand in chocolate and making Rowley think it is the muddy hand that he's afraid of, doing almost anything to get money, admitting bad stuff about people while lying when it's time to say something good in Rodrick Rules, and praying for bad stuff to happen to others in Dog Days. However, he is kind and could do nice stuff like doing Rodrick his science homework in Rodrick Rules, not telling Vice Principal Roy that Rowley vandalized the school in Cabin Fever, giving Rowley a date for the dance in The Third Wheel, forgiving Rowley for ditching him in Hard Luck, helping empty the boat in The Long Haul, throwing a cheese curl to a seagull in The Long Haul, shoveling the church's driveway on Christmas Eve in the freezing cold weather of Cabin Fever, and serving Heather Hills in Dog Days.

Rowley Jefferson

Rowley Jefferson is Greg's best friend, and the second main character of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Rowley is infantile, excitable, goofy yet charming and participates in Greg's schemes. He is usually taken advantage of by Greg, who is very mean and rude to him. In Dog Days, they separate, after Rowley unknowingly hammers Greg's hand (as Greg wanted to scare him), damaging Greg's chances of winning the video game championship, and Greg knows that he and Rowley will no longer be friends, but they got back together in the end of The Ugly Truth. In the first book, Rowley is the main antagonist, separating from Greg and replacing him with a new friend, Collin Lee, and at the end, Rowley is forced to eat "The Cheese," a secret that only Greg and a small group of teenagers know. At the end of The Third Wheel, Rowley begins dating Abigail Brown, a girl who was originally Greg's date for the Valentine's Day dance, continuing on in Hard Luck, where he is the main antagonist, ditching Greg for his new girlfriend Abigail, though in the end, they break up and he becomes friends with Greg again, despite Greg noting how different he and Rowley are from each other and how this sort of thing will happen again.

Rowley has what Greg considers strange interests for his age and gender, such as liking a singer for "eight-year-old girls" named "Joshie", and the Dino-Blazer action figures he receives as a birthday present, which is supposed to be toys for kids aged 7. Rowley is also the owner of the comic strip Zoo Wee Mama, and they both worked on it. However, Greg gives up to start his own comic strip, and hands Zoo Wee Mama to Rowley, and it becomes a success. After that however, Rowley claims that Greg had nothing to do with the comic strip.

In the movie series, Rowley is portrayed by Robert Capron.

Susan Heffley

Susan Heffley is Greg's mother. Though she tries to be loving, she sometimes seems naive, embarrassing, overprotective and lovable. She and her husband pay far more attention to Manny than their other two sons. It is never explained why, but it is likely that the reason they spoil Manny is because they don't want him to end up like Rodrick and Greg. She also makes Greg do the things she tells him to do. She is portrayed by Rachael Harris in the film series

Frank Heffley

Franklin "Frank" Heffley is Greg's father. He is interested in U.S. history, especially the American Civil War, and he even makes a replica of an American Civil War battlefield. Frank is edgy around Rowley, does not appreciate Greg's skill at video games, loathes heavy metal, and strongly detests adolescents. In Rodrick Rules, during Thanksgiving dinner, Frank set up the thermostat until it got stuffy and everyone cleared out. He once threatened to send Greg to the Spag Union Military Academy. In The Last Straw, he tried to toughen Greg up and threatened to send him to military school if he did not "shape up." Frank is also a junk-food addict who sometimes steals Greg's lunch snacks on which Greg depends to make it through the day. However, Greg and Frank grow together in Dog Days after Frank rethinks sending Greg to Spag Union in the end of The Last Straw, more significantly, over their mutual dislike of the comic strip Li'l Cutie. Greg say lots of people would call that a flimsy base for a relationship, but they actually hate a lot of the same things. Frank is portrayed by Steve Zahn in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid (film series).

Manny Heffley

Manuel "Manny" Heffley is the younger brother of Greg and Rodrick Heffley; a ridiculously-pampered, annoying, obnoxious, spoiled-rotten toddler who is constantly being doted on by his mother. He has a great number of demands and requests, and will throw temper tantrums if these wishes are not fulfilled and he is extremely self-absorbed in spite of his young age. Among Manny's most well-known character hallmarks are his refusal to be toilet-trained and his complete inability of entering a nursery school in which he can remain. Despite his very young age, Manny has shown signs of actually possessing more intelligence than he seems to; he managed to keep the electricity turned off in every room of the house with the exception of his own in "Cabin Fever" and it was in this same book that he successfully managed to change the password to Greg's account on a gaming website. He also has been shown to frequently damage the property of his older brother Greg, as seen in a number of books, and the excessive coddling that he receives from his parents infuriates Greg deeply. In Cabin Fever, it was found that when Manny is scared, he hides in his sock drawer. He also takes advantage of his overindulgence, as he often teases Greg when he gets a new toy that Greg didn't get. Manny is also quoted as having imaginary friends in the book "The Third Wheel" and accuses his imaginary friends responsible for the mischief caused by himself. The imaginary friends Greg remembers by name are Joey, Petey, Danny, Charles Tribble, the other Charles Tribble, Tiny Jim, and Johnny Cheddar. One of his imaginary friend's name is Johnny Cheddar, and Greg calls him the "trouble maker of the pack." Manny threw a tantrum when he supposedly left Charles Tribble in the grocery store. Greg thinks Manny makes imaginary friends to get extra dessert. Manny is a big tattletale. Manny is Gramma's favorite as well.He is also good at speaking Spanish as shown on the book "The Long Haul",When they encounter Spanish speaking people who came there to help,this surprised the rest of the family.

Manny shows similar traits to Farley Drexel "Fudge" Hatcher.

Rodrick Heffley

Rodrick is Greg's aggressive, antagonistic older brother; a drummer in a garage band humorously labelled "Löded Diper" noted for their substandard heavy metal concerts and limited musical abilities. It has been demonstrated that Rodrick is no exception from Mr. Heffley's notorious distrust of all teenagers, to the extent where Greg has implicated through his diary entries that his father may not even express sincere loving affection toward his eldest child. However, Rodrick is notorious for his stereotypically rebellious nature, feigning illness so as to be allowed to remain at home to throw a chaotic house party during his parents' absence, only for the evidence to appear in newly developed photographs that are quickly discovered by the boys' parents. Rodrick also possesses incompetent and somewhat dimwitted tendencies, as his school assignments are notoriously crude and idiotic in design and effort, having once falsely assumed that Abraham Lincoln was the author of To Kill a Mockingbird and based an entire science presentation of extreme importance around the hypothesis of whether or not plants sneeze (with Greg's aid). His spelling abilities are also poor, and he devotes a lot of time to tormenting his younger siblings (particularly Greg, as Manny is heavily shielded by his molly-coddling parents), having even allowed his knowledge of Greg's most mortifying experience during the summertime to haunt him as he entered school, fearing that the secret would be exposed. However, Greg's fears are quickly eased after Rodrick fabricates the true story to his brother's advantage, temporarily boosting his popularity. In the film portrayals of the books, Rodrick is played by Devon Bostick.

Greg's relatives and other family

Gramma and Grampa

Gramma is known to drive a car like the Heffleys' car. Greg often calls her to his home to skip his dad's scoldings, as his dad won't do that around Gramma. When Gramma is about to leave, Greg quickly goes to accompany his Gramma. Grampa is Gramma's husband. Since he doesn't appear in any of the books, it's possible he died. Gramma and Grampa are Greg's mom's parents.

Grandpa Heffley

Greg's grandpa is a typical grandfather who is asked to babysit Rodrick and his brother in Rodrick Rules. Greg's grandpa lives in a care home called Leisure Towers and enjoys playing games such as "Gutbusters", which the two boys find boring. Grandpa is a smoker. He has his television tuned to the lobby watch channel the whole time. He is also Greg's paternal grandfather.

Joe Heffley

Frank has a sibling rivalry with Uncle Joe. When Manny started potty training, Uncle Joe insisted that there was a "potty monster" that was about to get him, causing Manny to fear using the bathroom, so that meant Frank had to change his diapers for a longer time. Greg says that he could hear Frank cursing to Joe when he changed more diapers from Manny because of it. Also, Uncle Joe's children call their uncle "Aunt Fwank", which Frank swears he told them to do on purpose, but Susan thinks it's cute. In Dog Days, Greg mentions that he tried to make Uncle Joe convince Frank to get a dog, but that did not work out. He also mentions that his dog, Killer ate most of Greg's birthday cake.

Charlie Heffley

Charlie Heffley is Nana Heffley's brother and Greg's great uncle. He is also Greg's secret weapon at Christmas but usually gets the wrong thing. For example, Greg wanted to use a Barbie dollhouse as a fort for his soldier action figures, but got a Barbie doll instead. Also, when it was brought up at a family meeting that Greg was into superheroes, he got Wonder Woman underwear. Charlie is a bachelor and spends his spare money well, and Greg says he wants to follow in his footsteps. One time, at Christmas, Charlie got Greg a laundry hoop, hinting that Charlie is no longer Greg's secret weapon at Christmas as Charlie is tired of it. Also, in the first book, Greg thought Charlie got him Twisted Wizard, due to the exact size box, but it was just a 8X10 picture of Charlie.

Cecil Heffley

He is the uncle of Manny, Greg, and Rodrick, but is only 3 or 4 years old. He sits at the grown-ups table while Rodrick sits at the kids table. How Cecil qualifies as an "adult" is that Greg's Great Aunt Marcie adopted him and since he's her son, he's allowed to sit at the grown-ups' table. He is only seen in Hard Luck.

Loretta Heffley

Loretta Heffley is Greg's great-aunt. Not much is known about her. Mainly appearing in Rodrick Rules at the Thanksgiving dinner, she also appeared a couple times in the Do It Yourself Book. She looks more elderly than Gramma. She appeared a couple of times in The Ugly Truth. Loretta is the sister of Grandpa Heffley, Arthur Heffley, and Reba Heffley. Greg and Rodrick fight over who has to greet her first. She likes to talk about butternut squash. And she also likes men.

Aunt Veronica

Aunt Veronica is Greg's aunt and Susan's sister, who Greg states has never been seen in person since he was 2 or 3 years old, but calls his family members on video chat. When Greg was using the bathroom, playing games on his brand new phone, she started a video chat with him, which startled Greg because he was sitting on the toilet, leading to his mother's old phone falling in to the toilet. She appears in Hard Luck multiple times (often in person, but other times by video conference on a tablet and the used phone that Susan gave to Greg).

Terrence Heffley

Terrence is Frank's second cousin who has a mustache and glasses. Greg probably thinks he is ugly. It was proved when he was explaining when Terrence was his age, he looked exactly like him, in which Greg says "Terrence looked just like me when he was my age which is actually really depressing." Greg then mentions he better start saving up for plastic surgery.

Gammie Heffley

Greg's great-grandmother and the head of the Heffley family, only appearing in The Ugly Truth, as a minor character. She also has Legos that Susan bought to let her kids do something there. Gammie glued them together to one whole brick because of mess. Gammie is a trickster and knows a lot because of "experience". When someone in the family is about 12 or 13 years old she gives them The Talk, which is about how kids should not be hurrying to grow up. Gammie loves having visitors for dinner. One day Gammie bought a scratch ticket, in which she matched up 2 pictures and told all her family members that she had won a lot of money. Everyone was in a very big rush to get over there. When they all arrived Frank told Gammie that to win you had to match up 3 pictures. When she found that out, she didn't really care. She pulled a roast right out of the oven, and Greg figures she got what she really wanted anyway. Gammie is the mother of Grandpa Heffley, Arthur Heffley, Reba Heffley, and Loretta Heffley.

Reba Heffley

Reba Heffley is Greg's great-aunt. Gammie forgot to give her an invitation on Christmas, but she came anyway. She made everyone feel guilty. She only appeared in The Ugly Truth. She and Loretta are identical twins. Reba is the sister of Grandpa Heffley, Loretta Heffley, and Arthur Heffley.

Gary Heffley

Greg's uncle who has been married four times. In The Ugly Truth all of his wives divorced him as soon as they found out about his financial situation and job. In The Third Wheel he comes to live with Greg's family after he discovered his job in Boston selling shirts was a ripoff with the shirts having Boston being spelled "Botson". Later in the book it is shown that he got chosen to be the DJ at Greg's Valentine's Day dance.

1st wife: Linda
Reason for divorce: Job unappealing for her (worked at party place)

2nd wife: Charlene
Reason for divorce: Financial miscommunication (He had $45 in his bank instead of $45,000.)

3rd wife: Lydia
Reason for divorce: Unknown, possibly because of a tattoo that used to say, "Lydia" and then it said, "I'm not in love with Lydia anymore".

4th wife: Sonja
Reason for likely divorce: He was only engaged to her by coincidence when a plane with a banner saying "MARRY ME SONJA" flew over the baseball game at which he was going to break up with her because he wanted to start dating her sister. Apparently, there was another Sonja in the baseball stadium. Before Gary could say anything, Sonja turned around and said "YES, YES!" When they had the divorce, it was at their wedding when Gary's friend included it in his speech.

Aunt Dorothy

She is Greg's aunt who always kisses him on the lips. Greg's mom, Susan, says it's rude to wipe off the kisses Dorothy gives him. She is overweight and obese, and sometimes passes way too much gas, much to Greg's dismay.

She appears on the "Have You Ever" page in the Do-It-Yourself Book when Greg asks "Have you ever been kissed full on the lips by a relative who's older than seventy?" It means she might be older than 70 years old.

Arthur Heffley

Arthur Heffley is Greg's great-uncle. He only speaks in grunts or random sounds. He never had an actual conversation with anybody, but sometimes Greg tries to respond to him just in case he is trying to communicate. For example, once when he said "Rrup?", Greg replied "Umm...No thank you". ' He wears glasses and a neck tie. Arthur is the brother of Reba Heffley, Grandpa Heffley, and Loretta Heffley.

Great Uncle Bruce

Great Uncle Bruce is a deceased character who is mentioned in Cabin Fever and The Third Wheel. Greg is presented with a rather luxurious blanket as a Christmas gift, only to be repelled with it upon learning that it had formerly belonged to Great Uncle Bruce before his death, leading him to deposit it on an unsuspecting Rodrick. In The Third Wheel, Greg uses Great Uncle Bruce's old cologne to wear at the Valentine's Day, which ends up attracting some old ladies.

Byron Heffley

Byron is Frank's cousin whom Greg is not excited to see because at Gammie's last meeting, he was sent out to get milk, but hit a pothole halfway home and gets a flat tire, and Greg must get him. He needed supplies, so Greg returned to Gammie's. Due to his muddy shoes, however, the ladies needed to warn him because he was about to track mud. Unfortunately, he forgot about Byron's tire, and he was not happy when he got to Gammie's. Byron is Arthur Heffley's son.

He has only appeared in The Ugly Truth.

Nana Heffley

Not much is known about Nana. Her only appearance was in The Wimpy Kid: Do-it-Yourself book. She is the Paternal Grandmother to Greg, Rodrick and Manny. Mother to Frank, Joe and Gary and Mother-in-law to Susan. She is the wife of Grandpa. Since she doesn't appear in any of the books, it's possible that she died.

Aunt Cakey

Aunt Cakey is shown not to like kids. She appears in the online version and in Hard Luck. She is Susan's oldest sister. She used to have a dog named Rudy.

Aunt Gretchen

Aunt Gretchen is Susan's youngest sister. She has two out-of-control twin sons, Malvin and Malcolm. Aunt Gretchen has at least thirty pets. In Hard Luck, her rabbit (which everyone thought was a male) has a litter of bunnies, angering Frank.

Malvin and Malcolm

Malvin and Malcolm are Gretchen's two sons. They are out-of control kids, playing catch with rocks and cement. Malcolm is the wilder. He once got a hold of Frank's shaving kit and shaved himself. He also called the police to report Greg's family just for running out of ketchup, which results in Frank angrily making them leave.

Meemaw and Peepaw

Meemaw and Peepaw are the parents of Gramma and her two sisters, and are the grandparents of Susan. Peepaw is shown to be old and batty. Meemaw is dead, while Peepaw is still alive. Meemaw was in charge of putting prizes in the Easter eggs, and wore an expensive diamond ring. When Meemaw died, she accidentally put her ring in an Easter egg that was found by Greg at the end of Hard Luck.

Gramma's sisters

Gramma's sisters are the great-aunts of Rodrick, Greg, and Manny. They are the aunts of Susan Heffley and her sisters.

Rowley's family

Mr. Jefferson

Mr. Jefferson is Rowley's father, and is far more shrill than Mr. Heffley. Mr. Jefferson is extremely rude and paranoid, not accepting any criticism from anyone if they dare give any type of criticism about him or his property. He is the strictest father in the book series so far. He will not let Rowley play any video games with the slightest bit of violence or fighting in it, as he sees them as things that could change Rowley into a different person. Mr. Jefferson thinks Greg is a "bad influence" on his son. It is also shown that Mr. Jefferson had a close bond with Rowley.

He shows little interest in sports until in Dog Days, where he is found playing tennis with Rowley and golf with a caddy. In Rodrick Rules, Greg and Rowley say in their secret language: "Your-pa dad-pa smells-pa like-pa a woman-pa!" Greg is then forced to go home, and Greg questions how Mr. Jefferson cracked the code.

In Dog Days, it is revealed that Mr. Jefferson's first name is Robert because when Susan emailed him because of the note Greg sent her, it had Mr. Jefferson's first name on it.

Mrs. Jefferson

Mrs. Jefferson is Rowley's mother. She seems to be often concerned about Rowley such as when he broke his big toe after Greg put one of his dad's dumbbells under a pillow that Rowley kept kicking at Greg's sleepover. She also had Greg apologize to her for what he did to Rowley. Despite this, Mrs. Jefferson always enjoys Greg's company with Rowley. Although Mrs. Jefferson loves Greg, she does not let him come over because her husband dislikes Greg. In day 24 of the online version, it is shown that her first name is Linda from Greg's 'The Boy whose family thinks he's a DOG' comic.

In the first film, Rowley's mother is portrayed by Kaye Capron, Robert Capron's real life mother, whereas in Dog Days she is portrayed by Bronwen Smith.

Rowley's grandfather

Rowley's grandfather only appears in Rodrick Rules, when it's his birthday and he asks for a chocolate cake for his next birthday and Greg replies "If you're even alive next year" (because of his No Lying policy), thus stating he is old.

In the Rodrick Rules movie, Greg's grandfather has this role instead.

Other characters

Fregley

Fregley is a firm and impeccably graspable acquaintance and neighbor of Greg's, noted for his unexplained lot of odd or disgusting eccentricities. He has been known to perplex others with his behavior, and does not have any known friends, albeit Greg has been forcibly arranged to hang around with Fregley on several occasions, to his chagrin or aggravation. It's been mentioned that Fregley is prohibited from eating sugar by his parents, and the consumption of it in large quantities will send him into hysterical, uncontrollable frenzies. In the film adaptions of the books, Fregley is played by Grayson Russell. In the films, Fregley is a close friend of Greg, while in the book series, Greg always tries to avoid him.

Holly Elizabeth Hills

Holly Elizabeth Hills is the name of one of Greg's classmates; an older girl who primarily serves as Greg's unrequited romantic interest. A minor character, she earned a role of prominence in The Last Straw as the object of Greg's most recent infatuation, when he is continuously motivated to impress her to no avail. Virtually oblivious to Greg's existence or identity (Greg stops trying to impress her after she mistakes him for Fregley), she appears to take an interest in Rowley's sweetness, judging by an enthusiastic message which she had signed in his yearbook (as opposed to the note that she had written for Greg), to his envy. She seldom appears afterward, Greg's interest in her seemingly damaged by occurrences such as these as he starts showing an interest in other girls, including Holly's older sister Heather.

Where as her personality was hardly explored in the books, Holly's role was increased in film adaptions, debuting in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules as a newcomer to Greg's middle school with whom he is instantly besotted. She is depicted as being friendly and good-natured, albeit the relationship that she shares with Greg and Rowley is strengthened and exaggerated in the film portrayals, to the extent where it can be assumed that the infatuation that Greg feels for her may be mutual. She reappeared in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, her family portrayed as being wealthy and her sister shown to be tyrannical, spoiled, and selfish. Her sister has a slight reference to the Carnotaur from Disney's Dinosaur. Holly seems to enjoy the boys' companionship, and shows gratitude towards Rodrick Heffley's unintentional blunders that wound up destroying the undeserving Heather's birthday party, and the movie ends with Holly slipping her hand into Greg's. Holly is portrayed by Peyton R. List.

Chirag Gupta

Chirag Gupta is one of Greg's schoolmates and a minor character in the books, characterized by his short stature. Although he and Greg are well-acquainted and generally amiable to one another, Greg started the "Invisible Chirag" prank in Rodrick Rules, following a summer in which the Gupta family had been scheduled to move away but an unexplained alteration of plans changed this, and as a result Chirag's classmates teasingly ignored his entire existence or presence for days on end, to his aggravation and shock. Though Chirag has apparently forgiven Greg and his fellow schoolmates for concocting these pranks, it was mentioned in one book that he takes advantage of his family's lack of observance of the Christmas holiday and no obligations to behave for Santa Claus to pick on Greg.

In the movie adaptions, Chirag's role is enhanced, and is a close friend of Greg. He is portrayed by Karan Brar. He also plays a considerably more prominent role in these films, appearing in adaptions of books in which he'd been absent or hardly mentioned as a close acquaintance of Rowley and Greg's, and is depicted as being Indian-American.

Patty Farrell

Patricia "Patty" Farrell is a minor character who shares an intense rivalry with Greg, showcased on a few occasions. She is implied to be a hardworking but sanctimonious and domineering student, and earns Greg's animosity after having suggested to cover a map of the United States displayed in the classroom during a geography quiz, off of which Greg had planned to cheat, thus causing great difficulties for him, to his agitation. Motivated by his lust for revenge, he volunteers to play a tree in the school's upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz after viewing the movie adaption for the first time, believing that the role entails having to bombard the character of Dorothy Gale (whom Patty would be portraying in the play) with apples, only to learn that this scene was deleted for the school production and wind up defying the script to re-enact this scene, to the rage of Greg's parents. Albeit she has yet to play quite as significant a role in book series again, she has become something of a minor recurring character, although her appearances are rare.

In the film adaptions of the books, Patty's role is enhanced slightly. She is depicted as being monstrously demanding, her parents involved with the school board in this portrayal, and the motivation given for her hatred of Greg was due to his recital of an offensive playground chant poking fun at her that sent her bursting into tears during elementary school. She appeared in the film adaptions of all three films Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Rodrick Rules and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, and alterations made to the books include her talents for both wrestling and playing tennis, snatching the opportunities to assault Greg somehow while engaged in either sport with him. She is played by Laine MacNeil.

Heather Hills

Heather Hills is the attractive elder sister of Holly Elizabeth Hills, with whom Rodrick is infatuated. A minor character in the books, but starring as the main antagonist in the third film, Heather only is featured in several books as the object of Greg's unrequited infatuation; however, she seems oblivious to this. A student attending Crossland High School alongside Rodrick, she has held several minor occupations throughout the course of the books, during each of which Rodrick fecklessly attempted to grab her attention or impress her.

Little insight to her personality is provided in the book series; similarly to her younger sister, Holly, Heather's personality and role is further enhanced for the only film adaption in which she has appeared, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. In a modification of the events of the books, she is depicted as the oldest daughter of the Hills family. She is spoiled, obnoxious, rude, cold-hearted, demanding, mistreating her family and acquaintances. Plus, she proves to be even worse than Rodrick. Lovelorn, Rodrick Heffley and his band are hired to perform at Heather's ostentatious upcoming sixteenth birthday party, and, in an attempt to earn her admiration, Rodrick winds up messing up the celebration and decorations during a boisterous and substandard performance of Justin Bieber's "Baby," which makes Heather very upset and the party ends in disaster. Heather has a slight reference to the behavior of the Carnotaur from Disney's "Dinosaur (film)".

Mr. Ira

Only appearing in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, he is a teacher at Greg's middle school, who was on the school newspaper adult staff, and enlisted a replacement comic strip for the newspaper. He was made fun of in a kid's comic strip, and ruined Greg's comic strip instead of Rowley's.

The Snellas

First appearing in The Last Straw, they are a family that lives in the Heffleys' neighborhood, and they have a lot of children, all of whom are male and have names beginning with the letter S. Five of the children's names are revealed, and they are (from oldest to youngest): Shawn, Shane, Sam, Scott, and Seth. In The Last Straw, it is revealed that each Snella child has a half birthday party in which the adults perform funny stunts, in which no baby has laughed once, according to Greg.

Mr. Snella then sends the videos to "America's Funniest Families", a spoof and parody of America's Funniest Home Videos, and has never won anything (though due to Greg's embarrassing moment at the end of The Last Straw, they may have finally won).

Their last appearance was in The Ugly Truth, where they permanently move to another house, after a strange smell they cannot get rid of is in their house. The smell was devilled eggs, which Greg hated and threw in one of their plant pots when he was having dinner at their house, and despite trying to find the cause of the smell, they couldn't figure it out and eventually just moved. Greg feels guilty when he sees that they are taking the plant pot with them, but he resolves to try to find a way to sneak devilled eggs into Fregley's house.

In Cabin Fever, it is revealed a man named Mr. Alexander moved into their house.

Scotty Douglas

Scotty is a first grader from Rowley's karate class. In Rodrick Rules, Scotty was going to do a magic act in the Talent Show with Rowley as his assistant, but after Greg breaks Rowley's big toe, Greg has to fill in for Rowley. Greg complains about being a magician's assistant to Scotty, but Greg's mother tells Scotty's mother that Greg would be happy to replace Rowley. In the tryouts, Greg messes up the act so badly they are the only one not to make the auditions.

Scotty has a remarkably similar appearance to Greg's comic character, Creighton The Cretin, except Creighton's eyes are wide open and Scotty's eyes are beady just like all the other characters that do not wear glasses. In The Ugly Truth, he becomes the new Peachy Breeze kid, yet cannot say the slogan right. Between "Rodrick Rules" and "The Ugly Truth" it appears that Scotty has 2 siblings: An unnamed baby sister and an older brother (who is supposed to be ugly). In The Third Wheel Greg looked through the window at his house to find him playing one of Greg's video games with Rowley.

Mr. Underwood

Greg's Phys Ed coach. In the film series, he is named Coach Malone.

Bill Walter

A 35-year-old high school drop out and professional singer who has a rude attitude and Rodrick wants to be like him. In the novel Rodrick Rules, he was voted "Most Likely to Be a Rock Star" which influenced Rodrick to persuade him to join the band. Frank Heffley strongly dislikes Bill because he disapproves of his lifestyle and is afraid Rodrick will follow in his footsteps. In the live-action movie version of Rodrick Rules he is portrayed by Fran Kranz and is the main antagonist as he agrees to join Rodrick's rock band Loded Diper and later attempts to kick him out for an unknown reason. After performing the song "Exploded Diper", Rodrick retaliates and kicks him out. He also makes an appearance with Rodrick at the beginning at the roller rink. In the book Greg describes him as unemployed and still lives with his parents even though he is 35 years old. Also, in Rodrick Rules Bill appears to be a slob, as he "slorks" pot roast.

Dr. Salazar Kagan

Only appearing in The Ugly Truth, he is Frank's dentist. Frank took Greg to Dr Kagan instead of to Greg's usual dentist, a pretty woman named Rachel whom Greg has a crush on. Greg bit Dr Kagan's finger when his teeth were being checked. In what Greg believes to be an act of revenge, Dr Kagan tells Frank that Greg needs headgear to correct his overbite. Greg says Dr. Kagan is scary and evil and that he never fools around. He has sharp metal tools and never smiles—not even when his picture is taken. He also has billboards on the highway with ads that freak Greg out. His motto is, "Bad oral health is nothing to smile about."

Lenwood Heath

Only appearing in The Last Straw, he is a rebellious teenager, who was Greg's father's arch-enemy for about three months before he was sent to military academy, and this resulted in him becoming a fine young man who works at the movie theater. In the Dog Days film, he is portrayed by Tom Stevens, where he is seen working as a lifeguard at the pool the Heffleys were attending.

Jordan Jury

Only appearing in The Ugly Truth, he is a popular boy in a grade above Greg, who always has blowout parties. He invited Greg and Rowley to his latest one, but Greg could not go (due to Uncle Gary's fourth wedding), though he found out the only reason he was waiting kids in Greg's grade was to use them as servants for his latest blowout party

Angie Steadman

Only appearing in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid film, she is an additional character; a seventh grade with a pink streak of hair, who works for the school newspaper and hates middle school (calling it an "intellectual wasteland"). In the film, Greg and Rowley meet her under the bleachers during a game of "Gladiator". She got along with Rowley, but starts a rocky relationship with Greg, after he egotistically declines her offer to join the school newspaper, though after Greg tells the whole school he ate the Cheese instead of Rowley, she compliments and accepts him. In the film, she was portrayed by Chloë Grace Moretz.

Pete Hosey

The leader of the teenagers that attacked Greg and Rowley on Halloween. He is the secondary antagonist in the first film. He is unnamed in the first book but he is replaced by Herbie Reamer in the online version. After hasseling Greg and Rowley on Halloween, Greg yells that he will call the cops, and they chase him to Greg's grandmother's house. In the book, Greg and Rowley sneak back home, but in the movie, they try to intimadate Pete and his friends with a weed hacker, before he scratches his car and are chased into the woods. In both the book and the movie, the teens held a vendetta against them and near the end they corner them on the school field, and decide to force them to eat the moldy cheese. Rowley is forced to eat the cheese, but Greg ends up avoiding so by saying he's lactose intolerant, but in the movie they are chased off by the coach.

The Warrens

Although his family is vaguely referenced in the books, the Warren's are what got Frank thinking of making Greg more manly. The children of the Warrens are shown to be athletic and sporty, in stark contrast to Greg. In the third film, Stan, the father of the family, is the secondary antagonist, and is shown to be a neighbor of the Heffley's and has a childhood rivalry with Frank, that they appeared to have gotten over as adults. Greg finds out that Stan has been making fun of his father behind his back and came up with an elaborate prank to get back at him. In the movie, Mr Warren is the troopmaster of the Wilderness Explorers, and invites everyone over for an Independence Day party. They only appear in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw.

The Beardos

Only appearing in The Long Haul, they are the main antagonists of the book; a family of a couple and three sons, whom the Heffleys continuously indirectly meet during their road trip, though this was only known to Greg. Their first encounter was at a motel, where Greg angrily berated one of the Beardo children, who then told his father on him, causing Greg to have a fear of directly running into them again. Greg and his family are convinced that the Beardos had stolen their luggage and belongings at a place they both attended called "Soak Central", and try to track them down throughout, though it was revealed at the end that Greg had actually had the key to their locker in Soak Central, and that he got the number wrong and their belongings were actually there. They were known for driving a purple van, similar to the Heffleys' minivan. It is unknown if they are named the Beardos, as Greg himself did not who they were, though it is likely he dubbed him this due to the patriarch's noticeable long beard.
