Grand Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini Alavi Gorgani (Persian: سيد محمد على حسينى علوى گرگانى) (born 1922) is an Iranian Twelver shi'a marja.[2][3][4] He was born in a religious family in Golestan, Iran. He rose to a leading scholar in Najaf, and moved to Qom in 1979. Ayatollah Alavi Gorgani studied under the late Ayatollah Bourujerdi.[5]
