Jose Lorenzo "Pepe" Diokno (born August 13, 1987)[2] is a Filipino motion picture director, producer and screenwriter.

His debut film, Engkwentro premiered at the 2009 Venice Film Festival and received the Lion of the Future - "Luigi de Laurentiis" Award for Best Debut Film, as well as the Orizzonti Prize for new trends in cinema. It also received the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the 2010 Jeonju International Film Festival, a special citation from the 2009 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, and the Gawad Urian for Best Editing. Produced on a meager budget of USD 20,000, Engkwentro tells the story of two young gangsters on the run from a vigilante death squad.

Diokno's second film, Above the Clouds premiered at the 2014 Tokyo International Film Festival. The film follows a teenage boy orphaned by a flood on a journey up an ancient mountain with his estranged grandfather. The Filipino-French co-production took three years to make, and was produced with the support of France's Aide aux cinemas du monde, South Korea's Asian Cinema Fund, Switzerland's Visions Sud Est and the Arte Prize from the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival.[3]

Diokno is included in the 2010 book Take 100: The Future of Film, a list published by the UK's Phaidon Press, of the world's "100 most exceptional emerging filmmakers".[4] In 2010, Diokno also received the Ani ng Dangal Award from the President of the Philippines.

Diokno is the grandson and namesake of the late Philippine Senator Jose W. Diokno, and son of lawyer Jose Manuel Diokno.
