The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie, previously a residential episcopal see of the Catholic Church, is now a titular see.[1]

History
Originally the diocese for the northern part of Michigan was headquartered in Sault Ste. Marie.[2] Holy Name of Mary in the See City was the cathedral church.[3] In 1937 the see city of the diocese was transferred to Marquette, and the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Marquette.[4]
Titular Bishops
- Allen Henry Vigneron - the current Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit was the titular Bishop of this see from 1996 to 2003 while serving as the Auxiliary Bishop of the same diocese.
- Francis J. Kane - an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago is the current Titular Bishop of Sault Sainte Marie. He was named the Titular Bishop after his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, Illinois in 2003.
