Siquirres (canton)

Siquirres is the name of the third canton in the province of Limón in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 860.19 km²,[1] and has a population of 56,246.[2] Its capital city is called Siquirres.
The canton touches the Caribbean coast between the mouths of the Río Pacuare to the southeast and the Río Parismina to the northwest. It encompasses territory in a southwest direction, between the Río Madre de Dios on the southeast side and the Río Destierro on the northwest, as far as the southernmost portion of the Cordillera Central.
The area is drained by the rivers Reventazón, Parismina, Pacuare River, Madre de Dios and Matina River.

Agriculture products include: Banana, cacao, corn, coconut, plantain, rice, cassava, soursop, macadamia, nuts, pasión fruit and ginger. Fishing and cattle are also important.
Climate
The climate is warm, wet with temperatures between 25 and 26 Degrees Celsius.

History
The canton was established by law on September 19, 1911.
