The Suin Line (Suwon-Incheon) is a rail line serving the Seoul Capital Area.

The original route, abandoned in 1995, was one of the few narrow-gauge railways in South Korea. It connected Suwon to Namincheon via Ansan and Siheung. However, since December 28, 2004, the Suin Line is being reconstructed with standard gauge and double tracking as an integral part of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway network and is opening in three phases. Phase 1 opened on June 30, 2012 from Oido Station to Songdo Station, though an in-fill station called Darwol Station opened in late 2014 as the surrounding area, Baegot New Town, became more developed. Meanwhile, Phase 2 will open on around February 27, 2016 as an extension from Songdo Station to Incheon Station. Lastly, in at least December 2017, Phase 3 will open between Suwon Station and Hanyang Univ. at Ansan Station, allowing the Suin Line to merge with the Bundang Line into a very long line (presumably named the "Bundang-Suin Line").

The new alignment between Oido (technically starting from Hanyang University by Line 4) and Songdo opened on 05:30 KST, June 30, 2012 and it is expected to open between Incheon and Songdo on February 27, 2016 (excluding Hagik), while the remainder will not be in operation until at least December 2017.[1] The new line will follow the following route.

Rolling stock

For the current Suin Line, Korail introduced third generation Class 351000 EMU trains. They are the same as the third generation Class 351000 trains from the Bundang Line, except that they are painted red like the Jungang, Gyeongui and Line 1 trains. In the future, these trains will either remain with a red stripe or be repainted with a yellow stripe when the Bundang Line and the Suin Line merge at Suwon Station.

For the former Suin Line, the Korean National Railroad built a narrow gauge steam locomotive, the KNR160 Diesel Car (also known as the Niigata/Kawasaki Diesel Car), and the KNR18000 Passenger Car. One KNR160 (later renumbered KNR9160) and two KNR18000 are preserved at the railroad museum in nearby Uiwang.
