Tingstäde is a locality on the Swedish island of Gotland. Formerly a socken, on 1 January 2016, it was reconstituted into the administrative area Tingstäde District.[3] It is most noted for its nearby lake Lake Tingstäde, which contains the sunken Bulverket fortification, built, used and abandoned during the 12th century.[4]
Geography
Tingstäde is the name of the small village surrounding the medieval Tingstäde Church,[5] sometimes referred to as Tingstäde kyrkby. The name is also used for the locality Tingstäde, as well as the larger surrounding area, Tingstäde socken. It is located in the central north part of Gotland.[6]
