Mitoferrin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC25A37 gene.[1][2] It is an iron transporter that imports ferrous iron from the intermembrane space of the mitochondria to the mitochondrial matrix for the synthesis of heme groups and Fe-S clusters.[3] It shows homology to mitoferrin-2 (SLC25A28) and is stabilized by ATP-Binding Cassette, Sub-Family B (MDR/TAP), Member 10 (Abcb10).[4]
