Hawthorn (Welsh: Y Ddraenen Wen) is a village within the community of the town of Pontypridd in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf and is located 10 miles north west of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. Historically this fell within the parish of Eglwysilan within Mid Glamorgan. The electoral ward of Hawthorn comprises the settlements of Lower Rhydyfelin and Upper Boat.
The village is home to a pub (Hawthorn inn), a few shops, a post office, a leisure center Hawthorn leisure center, a public swimming pool and Hawthorn High School.[2]
