The 2016–17 Segunda División season (known as the Liga Adelante for sponsorship reasons) is the 86th since its establishment.

Name sponsorship

Spanish bank BBVA will not remain main sponsor for the Spanish first division, the two parties announced.[1] Telefónica-owned Movistar+ and beer brand Mahou are reportedly competing to become the next official sponsor of La Liga.[2]
