Brandeston is a village in Suffolk, England on the River Deben Lua error in Module:Convert at line 1851: attempt to index local 'en_value' (a nil value). northeast of Ipswich.

History

The mediaeval parish church is dedicated to All Saints. There is a pub called the Queen's Head.

The Rev. John Lowes, the Vicar of Brandeston, was found guilty of witchcraft by Matthew Hopkins, the self-styled Witchfinder General, and in 1645 was hanged at Bury St Edmunds. These events are recounted in the 1968 film Witchfinder General, starring Vincent Price.

Brandeston Hall the largest building in the village, is now the preparatory department of nearby Framlingham College. It was largely destroyed in a fire in 1847 and rebuilt as an exact replica by its then owner Charles Austin QC, who married Harriet Jane Ingilby of Ripley Castle and died at the hall.
