Mersin İdmanyurdu (also Mersin İdman Yurdu, Mersin İY, or MİY) Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1992–93. Mersin İdmanyurdu (MİY) participated in Second League in 1992–93 season for 19th time. Starting from this year the league has been played in two stages. MİY started league with championship claim but couldn't promote. The team also participated in Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası) in 1992–93 and eliminated at Round 1.

Kaya Mutlu was the president of the club. Kadri Aytaç started to season as the head coach but left in the mid-seeason. Fevzi Zemzem started to second half but Nasır Belci who started season as assistant coach finished the season as head coach. Yücel Çolak (34) and Erol Kolcu (32) were mostly appeared players, while Yücel Çolak was also the top goalscorer with 22 goals.

1992–93 league participation

Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in 1992–93 Second League season. League had been played in two stages. In the first stage 53 teams in five groups (three with 11 teams, two with 10 teams) fought for top two places. Top two teams of ranking groups (10 teams) had consisted promotion group. At the end of the second stage top three teams of promotion group promoted to top division 1993–94 First League season. Remaining teams in each ranking group played in classification groups. Bottom three teams in classification groups with 9 remaining teams, and bottom two teams in classification groups with 8 remaining teams were relegated to 1993–94 Third League at the end of the season.[1]

Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in 1992–93 Second League Group 3 consisted of 10 teams and finished first stage at second place. In promotion group team finished 5th and couldn't promote.

1992–93 Turkish Cup participation

1992–93 Turkish Cup was played by 141 teams in 6 rounds prior to quarterfinals in one-leg elimination system. Mersin İdmanyurdu had participated in the 31st Turkish Cup (played as Türkiye Kupası (it was played as Federasyon Kupası for eleven years since 1981–82 until 1991–92) in 1992–93 from and eliminated at Round 1. The opponents were from the same group with MİY in Second League. Galatasaray won the cup for the 10th time.[7]

Management

Club management

Kaya Mutlu, mayor of Mersin city was president of the club.

Coaching team

Kadri Aytaç managed the team as head coach during the first stage. Nasır Belci was in the coaching team. Fevzi Zemzem took over the team starting from the second stage. After 11th round when MİY lost to Denizlispor, Zemzem's contract ended. Nasır Belci managed the team for the rest of the season. On 5 May 1993 he signed his first contract with MİY as the head coach. Later he came to the head twice in the 2000s.
